Description
Australian Chestnut brings together three distinct eucalyptus species – messmate, southern beech and silvertop/black ash – native to the south east of Australia. It is a very durable blend, designed for decades of use.
As hardwood timber flooring, it differs from most other timber species. It is not just beautiful and full of character, it is also an enduring solid hardwood that is extremely well suited for timber floors, as it is highly dent resistant. Australian Chestnut has a Janka rating (scientific hardness test) of 8.1, and a Class 3 rating for its natural durability. Thanks to its unique strength, it is also suitable for other applications such as cabinetry and furnishings.
Select grade Australian Chestnut has a consistent colour profile, which can range from a pleasant neutral brown to light dusky chocolate browns with only very slight colour variations. Feature grade Wormy Chestnut, on the other hand, is full of natural character gained over years of growth, fire exposure, insect damage etc. These floorboards have very distinctive features, such as gum veins, bug trails and knotting. Staining and polishing can help to really showcase the individuality of these boards.
Boards are available in packs of random lengths, ranging from 0.9m through to 5.0m+.
